Privacy policy

Spindrift is a Mac app made by Deep Fathom, Inc. It has no account and no Spindrift server. Deep Fathom never receives your captures, notes, recordings or sign-ins. Effective October 28, 2026.

The short version

  • Everything you make in Spindrift stays on your Mac until you choose to send it.
  • When you send, Spindrift sends it straight from your Mac to the service you picked (Linear, GitHub, GitLab or Slack), under your account with that service.
  • Spindrift collects no analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers or usage data.

What Spindrift stores on your Mac

  • Captures: the screenshots you take or open, your marks and the note.
  • Voice recordings: when you press Talk, Spindrift records your microphone to transcribe what you say and, if you choose, attach the recording to a send. Recording stops when you press Stop.
  • Transcripts: made on your Mac by Apple's on-device speech recognition. Apple's speech models are managed by macOS.
  • Destinations and sign-ins: the services you set up. Their sign-in tokens are kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • Exports: images and recordings you export or drag out.

Spindrift keeps this in its own container on your Mac. You can delete any capture in Studio, and disconnect each account in Settings › Accounts; deleting the app removes the rest.

What Spindrift sends, and where

Only when you ask it to. When you press Send, the annotated image, your note, and the voice recording or capture details if you include them, go directly to the destination you chose, which handles them under its own terms and privacy policy: Linear (linear.app/privacy), GitHub (docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies), GitLab (about.gitlab.com/privacy, or your own GitLab server) or Slack (slack.com/trust/privacy).

When you connect an account, Spindrift opens the service's sign-in page in your browser, or uses a token you create, to get permission to post on your behalf. When you copy or drag, the image goes wherever you paste or drop it.

Spindrift doesn't sell, rent or share your information, and Deep Fathom has no copy of it to share.

Permissions Spindrift asks for

Screen Recording, to capture the part of the screen you select. Microphone, and speech recognition if macOS asks for it, only when you press Talk. You can change these in System Settings › Privacy & Security.

Children

Spindrift isn't directed to children and collects no information from anyone.
